PDW’s $820M Package Expands US Drone Manufacturing

PDW is at the centre of an $820 million financing package intended to expand US drone production and the domestic supply chain around it.
The US Department of War says the Office of Strategic Capital signed a conditional commitment of up to $820 million to establish high-volume domestic manufacturing capacity for critical drone components. PDW’s post described the package as $300 million of OSC financing alongside $520 million in private capital. The government release does not provide that split and says the commitment remains subject to financial, legal, technical and other due diligence before financial close.
The financing is intended to expand production of small drones and components including motors, batteries and radios. The department says the project will supply components to PDW and other domestic manufacturers, addressing bottlenecks across Group 1 and Group 2 unmanned aircraft.
PDW already operates Drone Factory 01 in Huntsville. The company says the 90,000-square-foot facility can produce up to 350 C100 multi-mission aircraft and 5,000 AM-FPV attritable drones per month at full capacity. Those are stated capacity figures rather than disclosure of current output.
The package follows PDW’s more than $110 million Series B in March and its completed acquisition of Vanteon, which added RF systems, software-defined radios, FPGA development and advanced communications expertise.
OSC has increasingly used conditional loans to finance production bottlenecks rather than purchase finished equipment. Recent commitments have targeted rare-earth separation and metallisation and permanent-magnet production. The PDW package applies the same industrial-policy model to small drones, while unusually extending the project beyond one manufacturer to motors, batteries, radios and components intended for other US producers.
The financing is an attempt to build domestic production capacity beneath several small-drone programmes. It ties PDW’s C100 and AM platforms to a deeper component-manufacturing buildout, while the conditional structure keeps the timing and final availability of the capital open.
