About Bear Flag Robotics

Bear Flag Robotics built a retrofit autonomy system for existing agricultural tractors. Cameras, positioning sensors, onboard compute and drive-by-wire controls allowed a machine to follow field plans and perform repetitive operations without a driver in the cab. Remote supervision gave a farm manager visibility over the tractor and created a path to coordinate multiple machines rather than assigning one operator to each vehicle.

The company tested the system in commercial field work, where autonomy must cope with dust, changing light, variable terrain and long operating days while remaining compatible with established implements. Deere & Company agreed to acquire Bear Flag for USD 250 million in August 2021, and the Bear Flag site now identifies the team as part of John Deere. Its technology and personnel were absorbed into Deere’s wider autonomous-machinery programme, so Bear Flag no longer operates as an independent tractor-autonomy vendor.
