About Centaur Robotics

Centaur Robotics’ chair uses active balancing on two wheels to fit within a footprint closer to a dining chair than a conventional powered wheelchair. Electronic control continually stabilises the platform while the rider steers with a joystick, and the seat can rise from normal sitting height to roughly bar-stool height. That vertical movement lets the user approach counters and speak with standing people at eye level without adding a broad lifting chassis.

The vehicle can rotate within its own footprint and pass through standard doorways, making it suited to homes, offices, shops and hospitality spaces where turning room is limited. Its composite structure, puncture-resistant tyres and lithium-ion battery are designed around everyday independent movement; published specifications describe around ten miles or a working day of use, with a four-hour recharge. The product’s defining engineering trade-off is the use of continuous self-balancing to combine a narrow base, elevated seating and manoeuvrability in crowded indoor environments.
