COAST Autonomous develops vehicle-agnostic software for machines operating within controlled industrial and defence sites. Its autonomy stack combines mapping, localisation, obstacle detection, path planning and drive-by-wire control, while a command-and-control layer assigns tasks and monitors several vehicles across the facility. The system can be adapted to existing tractors, utility vehicles and specialist machines across multiple chassis.
Current deployments cover work including mowing, foreign-object-debris sweeping, perimeter security and material movement at airports and military sites. COAST states that its software has FAA approval for autonomous civilian-airport operations in those applications. Earlier P-1 shuttles demonstrated the same multi-layer localisation approach for passenger movement; the current business is focused more broadly on automating industrial fleets in geofenced environments.
