About Galen Robotics

Galen’s surgical platform uses a surgeon-controlled robotic arm to hold and position delicate instruments during microsurgical work. In cooperative-control mode, the surgeon moves the instrument directly while the robot supports its weight, stabilises the motion and filters hand tremor. The system accepts specified conventional instruments rather than forcing the procedure into a large proprietary tool set, allowing it to fit around existing operating-room technique.

The US Food and Drug Administration granted De Novo authorisation in July 2023 for use with specified Jako microlaryngeal forceps during rigid microlaryngeal procedures. That authorisation defines the cleared ENT use; broader soft-tissue applications require separate development and regulatory pathways. Galen markets the platform through a service-led model that can combine installation, maintenance and per-procedure charges instead of requiring a hospital to fund the full capital cost upfront. The approach is intended to place robotic instrument stabilisation in operating rooms that cannot support the economics or footprint of larger surgical systems.
