About Ganymed Robotics

Ganymed Robotics is developing a knee-replacement system that uses computer vision to register the patient’s anatomy and track it during surgery without pins or other invasive markers fixed into the bone. The software identifies anatomical structures from intraoperative imagery, aligns them with the surgical plan and maintains that relationship as the leg moves. A robotic arm then guides a blade-based instrument for bone preparation.

The intended workflow keeps the surgeon in control of planning and execution while the robot provides tracking, geometric constraints and cutting assistance. Removing external tracking markers could simplify setup and avoid the additional incisions and fixation required by conventional optical-navigation systems. Ganymed reported completion of a preclinical study in 2025 covering automated registration, continuous markerless tracking and robotic bone cutting for total knee arthroplasty. The platform remains under development, is not FDA-cleared or authorised for sale, and requires further clinical and regulatory work before commercial use.
