About General Astronautics
General Astronautics is developing robotic workcells for experiments and production processes that must operate in microgravity with limited astronaut attention. The architecture combines manipulation, sensing and autonomous procedure execution so a payload can load samples, operate instruments and document results without continuous commands from Earth or intervention from a station crew.
Initial applications cover pharmaceutical and materials research in which microgravity changes crystallisation, fluid behaviour or manufacturing conditions. A customer would provide the scientific process and payload requirements, while General Astronautics packages the hardware and autonomous operating sequence for launch and orbital use. The company remains at an early development stage focused on building the labour and automation infrastructure required for repeatable in-space research.
