About Kinema Systems

Kinema Systems developed three-dimensional vision and motion-planning software for robotic depalletising. Its Pick system used depth cameras and deep-learning models to identify cartons in mixed pallet loads, estimate viable grasp surfaces and generate collision-free robot trajectories. The software could adapt to unfamiliar box sizes and arrangements without a stored model for every product.

Boston Dynamics acquired Kinema Systems in 2019 and integrated the technology into its warehouse-automation portfolio. The vision and planning stack became part of Boston Dynamics Pick and contributed to later case-handling development. Kinema no longer operates independently, while its technology continues within Boston Dynamics’ logistics products.
