VELUM uses cameras and AI perception to identify grasp points on crumpled towels emerging from an industrial dryer. A robot lifts the item, determines its orientation and presents it flat to the feeder of an existing folding machine. This closes one of the remaining manual gaps within otherwise highly automated commercial-laundry operations.
The system combines industrial arms, textile-specific grippers and motion planning that adapts to different shapes and fabric presentations. sewts delivered its first production VELUM installation to Greif Textile Mietsysteme in 2022 and is extending the same deformable-material intelligence through JUPITER into returns handling, sorting and recycling. The company supplies a complete robotic cell around the customer’s established laundry or textile process.
