About Terrafarm
Terrafarm is developing modular plant-factory systems in which software controls pressure, temperature, humidity, lighting, water and nutrient delivery around the crop. Robotics handle repeated cultivation and material-transfer work, while environmental data feeds the control layer used to tune photosynthesis and growth. Water, air and nutrients are designed to circulate within the module, reducing dependence on outside resources in isolated or constrained settings.
The same architecture is being developed for terrestrial food production and future use in spacecraft, orbital facilities and lunar or Martian habitats. Terrafarm works with the University of Tokyo on photosynthesis and space-agriculture research and has used edamame as an early crop programme. A Chiba collaboration is intended to connect controlled-environment production with regional food systems before the company moves toward off-world deployment. Terrafarm raised ¥100 million in June 2026 to advance its automated cultivation modules and physical-AI development.
