About Lumi-Tac
Lumi-Tac is a fingertip visual-tactile sensor that uses a miniature camera to observe deformation in an elastic gel during contact. Software interprets those images to separate force, texture, slip and contact-pose information, giving a manipulation controller richer feedback than a binary touch switch. LumiBot reports force-control precision of 0.02 N and spatial resolution at the 10 µm level; those figures are manufacturer specifications.
The sensor is intended for grasping, insertion and other contact-rich work where a robot must detect small shifts or handle fragile and irregular objects. Lumi-Tac integrates with the company’s Lumi-Dex dexterous hands, Lumi-Mod actuators and Lumi-Mind manipulation models, while Lumi-Cap supplies human-demonstration data for training. This places tactile sensing inside a complete loop: demonstrations establish the skill, fingertip measurements describe the physical interaction and the controller adjusts the hand during execution.
