About RX-1

RX-1 is a large quadruped developed by Helsing’s Area 9 research division for outdoor autonomy and physical-AI experimentation. Helsing designs the platform and crucial components, including its actuators, in Europe and manufactures the machine within the region. The hardware is intended to tolerate difficult terrain and weather while providing sufficient speed and robustness for field-robotics research beyond controlled indoor laboratories.

Helsing is making RX-1 available to selected European academic institutions for field-robotics research. Initial partners include Marco Hutter’s robotics group at ETH Zurich and INRIA Paris, which will use the platform for research into autonomy, perception and movement across unpredictable environments. RX-1 also gives Area 9 an internally controlled robot on which software and physical hardware can be developed together, reducing dependence on imported quadruped platforms.
