About S1 Space Robot

S1 was a one-metre autonomous robotic-arm system installed inside the International Space Station’s Bishop Airlock for a four-day demonstration in October 2021. It assembled structures and panels and manipulated switches and cables, combining autonomous execution with selected teleoperation from a ground control centre.

The mission followed NASA safety review and validated GITAI’s control, manipulation and in-space-assembly architecture in orbit. S1 completed all planned activities and became the technical predecessor to GITAI’s later external robotic-arm and satellite-servicing systems. S1 is a completed historical technology demonstrator from the 2021 ISS programme.
