Lyft operates a mobility marketplace connecting riders with drivers and transport services. The company was founded in 2012, is headquartered in San Francisco and expanded into Europe by completing its acquisition of FREENOW in July 2025.
Lyft's Korthos relevance is its direct role in autonomous-mobility deployment and operations, not its conventional rideshare business by itself. Lyft and Baidu agreed to deploy Apollo Go autonomous rides in Europe, with FREENOW providing the local marketplace and operating layer. In July 2026, dozens of Baidu RT6 vehicles began public-road testing in Brent, London, with human safety operators. Public passenger access remains targeted for 2027 and subject to approval.
