About STMicroelectronics
ST supplies several semiconductor layers used inside a robot. STM32 microcontrollers run real-time control and safety functions, STM32MP processors and neural accelerators execute Linux and edge-AI workloads, and inertial, time-of-flight and environmental sensors provide motion and proximity data. STSPIN motor-control products combine gate drivers, current measurement and embedded control for brushless, stepper and other electric motors.
Robot manufacturers develop around evaluation boards, reference designs, middleware and the STM32 software ecosystem, reducing the chip-level integration required for a new design. A typical architecture uses a processor for perception and planning, microcontrollers for deterministic joint or wheel control and power devices for switching the required current. ST’s robotics material also covers functional safety, connectivity and secure device management, giving developers a path from the sensor and motor layers through onboard inference and system control.
