About qb SoftHand2 Research

qb SoftHand2 Research has 19 compliant, self-restoring finger joints controlled through two motors and two movement synergies. The second synergy lets the hand change contact posture and manipulate an object within the grasp without requiring the robot arm to rotate the complete wrist.

The hand performs power grasps, precision pinches, pointing and localised force application, with a nominal two-kilogram payload in pinch configuration. Tendon-driven compliance allows the fingers to adapt to object geometry and recover from dislocation. Researchers access the hand through USB, RS-485 and ROS interfaces for manipulation, human interaction and control studies.
