Korean Air demonstrates AI aircraft-inspection robotics system

Jun 24, 2026 · Demonstration · Korean Air · Aerial

Korean Air showed a coordinated drone-and-rover maintenance system that detects aircraft-surface defects as small as 1 millimetre and reduces external inspection time from roughly ten hours to about one hour.

  • The system combines autonomous data capture with AI defect analysis and maintenance reporting.
  • The demonstration was presented at Korea’s 2026 transport-technology exhibition.

Korean Air combines global airline operations with aerospace manufacturing, military aircraft support, unmanned aircraft and maintenance engineering. Its robotics work includes cooperative inspection drones and ground rovers that capture aircraft-surface data for AI defect analysis, plus autonomous mission software and UAM traffic management. A 2026 regulatory exemption enables apron trials at Incheon and Gimpo airports.
