KVH launches P-1775 IMU with photonic chip technology

Jun 30, 2020 · Product Launch · KVH Industries · Sensors

KVH Industries made its P-1775 inertial measurement unit available and began shipping the first units with its PIC Inside photonic integrated chip technology.

  • The P-1775 replaced individual fiber-optic components with an integrated planar optical chip intended to simplify production while maintaining or improving performance.
  • KVH designed the sensor for autonomous and high-performance navigation applications across land, sea and air.
  • An early customer integrated the unit into a next-generation rocket launch vehicle.

KVH Industries develops fibre-optic gyroscopes and inertial navigation systems alongside maritime connectivity products. Founded in 1982 and based in Middletown, Rhode Island, its navigation portfolio combines FOG technology, GNSS and sensor-fusion algorithms for unmanned aircraft, autonomous vehicles, marine systems and stabilised payloads. KVH systems provide position, attitude and heading when external navigation is degraded.
