Donaustahl announces German drone-motor production capacity

Donaustahl announced plans to establish new German manufacturing capacity for drone motors and fibre-optic systems to strengthen domestic defence supply chains.

  • Chief executive Stefan Thumann disclosed the manufacturing plan during the Women in Defense Tech and BASED Resilience Exchange in Munich.
  • The expansion targets domestic production of propulsion and fibre-optic components used in unmanned systems, reducing dependence on external suppliers.
  • Donaustahl framed the investment as an industrial-sovereignty measure for Germany's growing defence-drone sector.

DONAUSTAHL develops and manufactures modular uncrewed aircraft, UAV avionics, warheads and onboard effectors for defence users. Its portfolio is designed around rapid iteration, vertical integration and soldering-free or otherwise simplified production methods suited to scalable European manufacturing. Based in Bavaria, the company also provides operational training and has expanded serial production around systems informed by current battlefield requirements.
