Oct 4, 2021 · Acquisition · Sensonor · Sensors

Safran completed its acquisition of Norwegian MEMS inertial-sensor specialist Sensonor.

  • Sensonor joined Safran Electronics & Defense following completion of the acquisition.
  • The transaction expanded Safran's portfolio of MEMS gyroscopes and inertial systems.
  • Safran identified civil, military and space attitude-measurement, stabilisation and orientation applications for the combined portfolio.

Sensonor, now Safran Sensing Technologies Norway, develops high-precision MEMS gyroscopes and inertial measurement units in Horten. The business traces its sensor technology to 1965 and became an independent specialist through a 2009 management buyout before joining Safran. Its compact inertial components support navigation, stabilisation and pointing in aerospace, defence, marine and other demanding autonomous platforms.
