Orpheus AUV is Orpheus Ocean's ultra-deep subsea vehicle for high-resolution seafloor survey, fixed-point monitoring and physical sample collection with a modular instrument bay.
About
Orpheus AUV is a hover-capable subsea platform designed to collect high-resolution data near and on the seafloor. Its operating modes cover wide-area survey, low-power monitoring at fixed points and physical sample collection. A modular instrument bay accepts geoscience, environmental and biological payloads including sediment corers, multibeam sonar, magnetometers, hydrophones, water sensors, cameras and eDNA samplers.
The vehicle is rated to 6,000 metres and carries 22.7 to 31.8 kilograms of wet payload. Four thrusters support horizontal and vertical positioning, while an altimeter, DVL and INS provide onboard navigation and a USBL beacon supports shipboard tracking. Orpheus Ocean specifies a 2.6-kWh lithium-ion battery, an estimated 10-kilometre transit range, eight to 12 hours of active endurance and 24 to 96 hours in passive monitoring configurations.
