About

About SEAScout

SEAScout is QinetiQ's modular small unmanned underwater vehicle for naval, survey and research missions. The sealed common base is 686 mm long before payload sections and weighs 7.3 kg before payloads. Independently sealed modules can be daisy-chained for side-scan sonar, navigation, acoustic communications, environmental sensing, additional battery capacity or customer equipment.

The vehicle is rated to 200 m and supports speeds from 3 to 12 knots, subject to payload selection. QinetiQ specifies up to 30 hours at 3 knots, five hours at 8 knots and half an hour at 12 knots. Four independently actuated fins control roll, pitch and yaw, while the software stack uses ROS in a containerised environment. Optional GPS supports surface fixes; depth and compass sensors support submerged navigation, with higher-grade INS and DVL available as payloads.
