Thorvald 3 is Saga Robotics’ modular autonomous field robot for crop protection and crop intelligence. It applies targeted UV-C light against powdery mildew while its onboard cameras collect plant-level data in commercial strawberry and grape operations.
About
Thorvald 3 is Saga Robotics’ production-oriented generation of the Thorvald autonomous field platform. Its lightweight electric chassis uses Saga’s replaceable Dual-axis Drive modules and carries crop-specific equipment for repeated passes through strawberry rows and vineyards. The principal commercial workflow uses high-intensity UV-C light to control powdery mildew without fungicide application, while two onboard cameras collect imagery for fruit, flower and ripeness analysis.
Saga supplies Thorvald through an operated agricultural service tailored to crop and region. The company reported more than 150 Thorvald 3.0 units active during the 2025 season, with deployments covering 1,300 acres of California vineyards and 20% of the UK tabletop-strawberry market. The same modular platform also supports data collection, runner cutting and predatory-mite spreading, but availability depends on crop and service configuration.
