Machina Labs and nTop demonstrate tool-free UAV airframe workflow

Jun 17, 2026 · Demonstration · Machina Labs · Industrial

Machina Labs and nTop demonstrated a Class 3 UAV airframe workflow that moved from final design lock to an assembled four-panel metal structure in two weeks.

  • The teams evaluated 11 structural variants and 15 CFD cases before committing the design to metal.
  • Machina produced the airframe through robotic forming, joining and assembly without dedicated hard tooling.
  • The programme is continuing toward a roughly six-foot flight demonstrator with RCTestFlight.

Machina Labs builds and operates software-defined factories for production-grade metal structures used in defence, aerospace and advanced mobility. Its RoboCraftsman cells combine seven-axis robotics, autonomous material handling and closed-loop AI controls to form, scan, trim, drill and increasingly join large sheet-metal parts without geometry-specific tooling. The company is headquartered in Los Angeles.
