Deep Ocean Engineering introduces Phantom FlyImager hybrid underwater drone

Mar 1, 2016 · Product Launch · Deep Ocean Engineering · Maritime

Deep Ocean Engineering introduced the Phantom FlyImager at Oceanology International 2016 as a hybrid platform combining EdgeTech side-scan sonar with its Phantom T5 ROV.

  • The FlyImager combines an EdgeTech 4125 side-scan sonar with Deep Ocean Engineering's Phantom T5 remotely operated vehicle.
  • Operators can tow the system to search acoustically, retract its stabilizing wings and convert it into a free-flying ROV for close optical inspection.
  • The single-vessel design was presented as an alternative to deploying separate towfish and ROV systems for target identification and inspection.

Deep Ocean Engineering designs, builds and tests remotely operated underwater vehicles and unmanned surface vessels in San Jose. The company has supplied more than 600 Phantom systems across over 30 countries for science, offshore energy, nuclear inspection, surveying, security, law enforcement, defence and underwater filming.
