Deep Ocean Engineering introduces Phantom X8 light work-class ROV

Deep Ocean Engineering introduced the Phantom X8, its largest and most heavy-duty ROV at the time, for deep-sea exploration and light-intervention work.

  • The X8 launched with six vectored horizontal thrusters and two vertical thrusters for multidirectional control in strong currents.
  • Its imaging package included front and rear HD cameras, three adjustable LED lights and automated heading, altitude, depth and positioning functions.
  • The 1,000-metre-rated platform targeted pipeline inspection, offshore-wind maintenance, infrastructure repair, surveying and research missions.

Deep Ocean Engineering designs, builds and tests remotely operated underwater vehicles and unmanned surface vessels in San Jose. The company has supplied more than 600 Phantom systems across over 30 countries for science, offshore energy, nuclear inspection, surveying, security, law enforcement, defence and underwater filming.
