Fincantieri assembles a €600M underwater platform
Four acquisitions bring subsea services, wireless communications, underwater robotics and unmanned surface systems into one group.
Fincantieri announced a roughly €600M acquisition package to accelerate its underwater business. The Italian shipbuilder agreed to acquire stakes in four companies: Next Geosolutions, WSense, Graal Tech and Defcomm. The package brings together subsea services, underwater wireless communications, underwater robotics and unmanned surface systems.
Fincantieri says the deals would take its underwater operations to about €1.1B of 2026 revenue and €220M of EBITDA, reaching its 2030 underwater targets four years early.
This is not its first move into robotics and autonomy. Fincantieri had already been building an underwater segment, with prior relationships around WSense and Graal Tech. Earlier this year, it also launched a four-year partnership with Generative Bionics to develop a humanoid welding robot for shipyards, with initial tests planned at Sestri Ponente by the end of 2026.
