Samhyun’s robot actuator buildout
A KRW 40B automated line shows Korea’s push to turn motion-control manufacturing into humanoid supply-chain capacity.
During the Samhyun Marketing Communication Day 2026 in Seoul, CEO Park Ki-won announced a 40 billion KRW, or ~26.7 million USD, capital injection to expand robot actuator manufacturing at the company's Changwon Plant 2.
Slated for construction starting in July 2026 and concluding in April 2027, the upgraded facility will feature a production line automated at 90 percent. At full operation, the site will yield an annual output of 500,000 actuators, 1,500,000 motors, 1,000,000 controllers, and 500,000 reducers.
The AXLON Actuator Portfolio
The event served as the debut for AXLON, Samhyun's dedicated brand for humanoid robot actuators. The AXLON portfolio features 12 distinct models, all engineered as integrated motion modules that consolidate the motor, reducer, and controller into a single unit. These components are specifically designed for humanoid joints and demanding robotic deployments that require high durability, exact control precision, and space-saving form factors.
While the humanoid robotics market remains in its early stages, commercial interest is accelerating. Park confirmed that this capacity expansion is driven by active development and mass-production negotiations with 21 international firms.
Strategic Shift in the Global Supply Chain
This pivot highlights a larger trend within the South Korean manufacturing sector. Companies like Samhyun, SBB Tech, and SPG are actively leveraging their legacy expertise in automotive precision manufacturing to secure foundational roles in the global robotics supply chain. As robot developers secure funding and advance their prototypes, the industry requires suppliers capable of delivering reliable underlying components at a massive scale.
This ambition was evident at the Automate 2026 exhibition, where a joint pavilion hosted by the Korea Institute for Robot Industry Advancement showcased 14 South Korean robotics and automation firms. The strategic focus extends beyond fully assembled robots to prioritize the essential motion components necessary for the North American market. In this context, Samhyun's Changwon expansion represents a critical step in building the production infrastructure required to supply the next generation of global robot programs.
