Saronic selects Brownsville for Port Alpha
The company plans more than $3B for a software-defined shipyard designed to build autonomous and crewed vessels at scale.
Saronic has selected Brownsville, Texas, for Port Alpha, its planned next generation shipyard.
The company plans to invest more than $3 billion, with construction starting in 2026 and operations targeted for 2028.
The site will begin at 835 acres, with expansion rights to nearly 4,400 acres, and could create up to 10,000 direct jobs over the next decade.
Port Alpha is designed to build autonomous and crewed military and commercial vessels. Unlike Saronic’s existing Louisiana operation, it will be a greenfield shipyard built around advanced manufacturing and high throughput production.
Founded in 2022, Saronic raised $600 million at a $4 billion valuation in 2025, then another $1.75 billion this March at a reported $9.25 billion valuation.
It also holds a roughly $392 million US Navy contract for Corsair autonomous vessels, which have since supported an at sea rescue and, this week, the first known US combat deployment of autonomous surface vessels near the Strait of Hormuz.
Saronic is moving from building autonomous boats to controlling the shipyard infrastructure needed to produce medium and large vessels at scale.
