Alva raises €16M to scale compact motors

The Norwegian supplier is expanding FiberPrinted motors for robotics, aerospace, medical devices and defence.

Alva Industries has raised €16M to scale production of ultra-compact electric motors. The Norwegian company uses a FiberPrinting process that weaves conductive fibres into the motor stator, rather than winding copper wire around a heavier iron core.

The target is compact, high-performance motion; high torque density, low cogging, precise control and smaller form factors. This puts Alva in the actuator stack for robotic hands, compact joints, drone gimbals, surgical tools, automation, aerospace and defence systems.

The robotics link became clearer in December, when Samsung Electro-Mechanics invested in Alva to support robotics and humanoid applications, including robotic hands and humanoid platforms.

Alva says it now has hundreds of active customer projects across commercial and defence markets, with demand from robotics, aerospace and medical-device OEMs. The new funding is about scale; expanding manufacturing capacity, product development and international growth.
