CATL and Stellantis Break Ground on €4.1 Billion LFP Battery Plant in Spain

Nov 26, 2025 · Facility Opening · Contemporary Amperex Technology · Power Systems

  • The joint venture between CATL and Stellantis commenced construction of a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery gigafactory in Zaragoza, Spain.
  • The facility is designed to operate as a carbon-neutral plant with a capacity of up to 50 GWh and is expected to start production by the end of 2026.
  • The project represents an investment of up to €4.1 billion and will create more than 4,000 direct jobs, strengthening the European battery value chain and local industrial ecosystem.

CATL's robotics relevance comes through battery and power-system capability for embodied and intelligent machines rather than complete robot platforms. Its public materials support tracking robotics-oriented scenario research, application research, and product development, but not a named humanoid customer relationship.
