  • IHMC said Alex is a multi-year, multimillion-dollar humanoid project funded through the Office of Naval Research and built on lessons from Nadia.
  • The research goals include next-generation controllers for outdoor urban operations, behavior design for building exploration, behavior cloning and improved simulation.
  • IHMC described Alex as a platform for out-of-lab testing, disaster-response scenarios and high-risk environments where robots could reduce risk to human responders.

Boardwalk Robotics develops humanoid robotic systems with roots in the Institute for Human and Machine Cognition long-running humanoid research program. The company collaborated with IHMC on the Nadia research platform before announcing Alex as a commercial manipulation-first humanoid upper-torso robot for manufacturing, logistics, food processing and maintenance.
