Monarch Tractor is building MK-V into driver-optional farm work
A December 1, 2022 Founder Series launch, six Constellation Brands tractors, and Livermore production give Monarch Tractor a farm automation anchor.

Monarch Tractor announced Founder Series MK-V production in Livermore, California on December 1, 2022. The first tractors came off the production line at the company?s headquarters and manufacturing facility.
Constellation Brands purchased the first six Founder Series MK-V tractors. That customer anchor puts the launch inside vineyard and specialty-crop operations where labor, emissions, and repeat field tasks are central operating pressures.
Monarch describes MK-V as fully electric, driver-optional, and smart tractor hardware. The farm surface is not only autonomy: charging, implement compatibility, field safety, operator control, and fleet management all determine whether the tractor becomes useful work capacity.
Monarch was founded by Praveen Penmetsa, Carlo Mondavi, Mark Schwager, and Zachary Omohundro. The team?s mix of electric powertrain, agriculture, and autonomy context fits the product thesis: make a tractor that can serve emissions goals and labor needs while staying recognizable to farm operators.
The competitive field includes John Deere autonomy, CNH and New Holland electrification, Kubota autonomy programs, Agtonomy, Sabanto, and conventional compact tractors. Monarch?s distinction is the combined electric and driver-optional package for specialty agriculture rather than autonomy retrofits alone.
Public material does not show delivered fleet uptime, charging downtime, service response time, autonomous operating hours, customer retention by farm, price per tractor, maintenance cost, repeat order rate, or current MK-V fleet size. The proof is production launch and first-customer volume.
MK-V tests whether farm autonomy can enter through familiar tractor work instead of a separate robot platform. If Monarch turns electric driver-optional tractors into reliable field hours, it can position the tractor as both a labor tool and an emissions asset for farms under pressure to modernize equipment.
