GAC reveals GoMate as an automaker-built humanoid robot
GoMate puts GAC automotive R&D, battery work and manufacturing capacity behind a variable wheel-foot humanoid, with early deployment claims tied to group industrial sites.

GAC revealed GoMate in December 2024, adding a major Chinese automaker to the humanoid field. The robot uses a variable wheel-foot form that can change height and stance for mobility, a practical choice for a company coming from vehicles, batteries and production systems.
The Company
GAC is a state-owned automaker with a large manufacturing base and joint-venture history around Toyota and Honda. The company says its robotics work began in early 2022, using automotive technology for embodied AI robots. GoMate therefore starts from an industrial parent with test sites, component expertise and manufacturing discipline already inside the group.
The automotive context helps explain the wheel-foot design. Wheels are efficient, controllable and familiar on factory floors. Legs and humanoid proportions preserve access to human-scale workspaces. GoMate sits between those priorities, closer to a mobile manipulation system shaped by automotive engineering than to a pure biped research platform.
GoMate
GAC describes GoMate as its third-generation humanoid, with a 38-DoF body, cloud-based multimodal AI, FIGS-SLAM navigation and a six-hour solid-state battery claim. Those specifications should be treated as launch claims until customer-side validation is published. The durable question is whether GAC can connect the robot to its own component development and small-scale production path.
Maturity
GoMate has been connected to GAC Trumpchi, GAC AION production lines and industrial park use cases, but public materials do not yet show customer-side operating data, fleet scale, uptime, task duration or purchase structure. The next proof is whether GAC turns its automaker advantage into repeatable robot production and useful internal deployment beyond a one-off humanoid showcase.
